The Tararua community is working collaboratively to engage and support youth in the district by raising awareness and creating conversations about youth employment. In 2015, local businesses and schools, Tararua District Council, Tararua Community Youth Services and the Ministry of Education, Work and Income came together to form the Tararua Youth Guarantee Community Partnership (TYGCP).

“Tararua youth face a barrier to finding work in the district, and by working closely alongside local business and schools, the TYGCP hope to break down this barrier and generate positive employment and training opportunities for our youth.” says Amiria Rautu-Bristowe. Amiria has recently taken up the role of Support Administrator for the TYGCP and is housed within the Tararua Business Network (the Economic Development unit of the Council).  “I have been working with the staff at the Business Network to establish a database and develop links between youth and employers.”

To support this collaborative focus on youth development, Tararua District Council has produced a series of articles called the ‘Keep Employing Youth (KEY)’ series. These articles highlight the value of youth employees and are available in the month’s issue of Talking Tararua.
